While it appears to be quiet on the renewables front, a lot has been happening behind the scenes here in Walcha, below are a couple of important updates you need to be aware of ...

Winterbourne Wind VPA (Voluntary Planning Agreement).
|
The VPA will be shortly presented by Council for exhibition and comment.
|
The Negotiations for the VPA (which legally describes the much heralded “Community Fund”) have been occurring in a manner that is very developer friendly, with developer acting as designer, and we have had the wool pulled over our eyes. It has been a David and Goliath negotiation, but David has been floored. The “value” has been misrepresented, and the Devil is there, but not even in the detail. We will need our community to respond to the Winterbourne VPA proposal soon, when it is put on exhibition. Please take the time to understand this information. If the developer has success in achieving approval for the project, they must at least provide fair compensation to the community. They have been squabbling over peanuts and they need to be held to account.

Planning Department presenting Draft Energy Policy Framework

We NEED community members to respond to this meeting, that has been scheduled by the Planning Department. The Draft Energy Policy Framework deals with the manner in which renewable projects are rolled out within the Renewable Energy Zones, of which New England is the largest.
With the department of planning releasing their draft plan for renewables it is time to have our say. They have called the meeting, and we need to press our case.
Come along to Vet Supplies ... Encourage your neighbours your friends and all concerned community members to attend to listen, have a say, and ask a question.

Arm yourself with facts before emotion. We will be summarising this plan, and our concerns, and sharing this with our community, prior to the event.
The Walcha community is being asked by Walcha Energy to carry 50% of the load of the New England REZ - the largest REZ in the state - This is TOO much
