What was said ...

Last week we saw the Upper House conduct an inquiry into the effects of the Renewable Energy Zones on rural communities.

This was the last of a three part inquiry that included visits to Sydney, Dubbo and finally Armidale. The recommendations that will be made from this inquiry and its findings will hopefully have meaningful impact on government policy. Expect these recommendations to be made public in a few months time.

Walcha was well represented with Mayor Eric Noakes and Acting General Manager Al Butler presenting (see 0:51 in video below). Voice for Walcha then tabled their perspective and submissions represented by Cam Greig and Damien Timbs.

A copy of our submission is attached and you can listen in to the inquiry by clicking on the you tube link. Voice for walcha appears with valley alliance at about 3hrs and 7mins into the recording.

We look forward to your input and feedback.

The general theme repeats itself the New England REZ is too big, there is poor developer engagement and behaviour and the government agencies EnergyCo and the Planning Departments are both wasteful and below the standards expected of government in our country.

Kind Regards
