During recent interactions with developers, it has been inferred that we are a small nuisance group that has little or no support from the community. For example, Mark Waring’s (Walcha Energy) submission to the Winterbourne Wind EIS states “Unfortunately, a small self-appointed group called “Voice for Walcha” has spread misinformation and myths about this wind development designed to scare and divide the community using a heavy coercive approach”.
This has been an effort by the developer to deflect or trivialise community concerns around the quality of projects currently planned for our area. Comments like these from the developers are intended to reduce the validity of the messages from Voice for Walcha. We feel that we need to respond to this, by formalising the extent of support for Voice for Walcha.
We think the best way to do this is to have a membership base for Voice for Walcha. This will not cost anything, and we will not be using or releasing names. We will simply quote the number of formal supporters where it is appropriate and this will add strength to our representations, and correspondence.
